Please show your support for Lancaster City Council’s proposal to require developers to build energy efficient, cheap to run, net zero homes.

The policy was under threat last year when a Planning Inspector said the Council did not have the power to do this. Following a campaign opposing this decision, the Inspector withdrew her objection.

There is now another consultation on the original policy, including updates on the definition of carbon reduction and net zero.  Developers are likely to oppose this important policy, so it is vital we show there is widespread support for it.

Please respond to this new consultation – which should only take a couple of minutesand/or write to Lancaster’s planning department, showing your support.  Deadline for responses is 5pm Friday 3 May.

GUIDANCE ON WRITING TO LANCASTER PLANNING DEPARTMENT

As there is nowhere in the consultation where you can positively support the policy, we need people to write to the Council’s planning department to express their support. You can email them on: planningpolicy@lancaster.gov.uk

Below is a draft sample email but do, if you wish, put it in your own words.

Dear Planning Policy,

I am making a representation in relation to the Climate Emergency Local Plan review, further main modification MM14.

As there is nowhere on the online form to express my support for the reinstatement of your original Policy DM30a, I am writing to you to express this.  I believe the policy is an important step towards addressing fuel poverty and the climate emergency. I commend your determination of this matter.

Yours sincerely,

YOUR NAME

Thanks for taking the time to do this, last time it did actually make a difference!

Cheers,

Kevin Frea (former Deputy Leader, Lancaster City Council)
